As we embark on the journey from RUN4KB to KB's Legacy - One Step at a Time, we're thrilled to announce our rebranding efforts. With overwhelming success and a dedicated following, we're committed to continuing our mission of supporting Ewing sarcoma research and raising awareness. Stay tuned as we finalise this transition and update our website accordingly. Thank you for your support.

My journey with KB began 12 years ago when our paths crossed through defensive tactics training. Over time, our friendship blossomed from that of colleagues to one where KB became my mentor, guiding me towards becoming the person I aspired to be. He taught me invaluable life lessons, such as being proud yet humble, cherishing every moment and memory, displaying kindness and selflessness, and always lending a helping hand to friends in need.

MEMORIES OF KB

KB touched my life in countless ways. He encouraged me to embrace my true self and not to impersonate others. Each morning, KB would greet everyone in the office with a warm, "have I told you guys today?" which translated to, "have I told you guys that I love ya's!" His heartfelt concern for his colleagues was evident each morning when he offered his cup of tea, along with his peanut butter toast, or even went out of his way to prepare these simple comforts for others, ensuring everyone felt welcome and cared for.

His generosity didn't stop there; if you ever complimented his hat or t-shirt, he would give it to you on the spot, insisting, "Here mate, it's yours."

KB was a bloke built like a brick shit house, strong and able to take on any challenge. His generosity truly shone during my recovery from a work injury. He was one of the few who regularly checked in on me, sending me books about perseverance and motivating me to never give up. Our shared passion for boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and defensive tactics training only deepened our bond.

KB was an inspiration not only to me but to everyone who knew him. As a father figure and a symbol of our workplace, he garnered respect and admiration both in Australia and around the world.

THE BIRTH OF AN IDEA

THE 441KM CHALLENGE

The inspiration for the fundraiser struck me when KB's wife, Kimmie, selflessly requested donations to cancer research instead of flowers or gifts. This act of selflessness from both KB and Kimmie compelled me to do something meaningful in their honor. Witnessing KB's courageous battle against cancer, even changing his medication to remain lucid at the cost of increased pain, broke my heart but also ignited my determination to make a difference and leave a legacy my children could be proud of. I began brainstorming ways to raise awareness and funds for Ewing Sarcoma cancer research, determined to honor KB and the impact he had on me and countless others.

The idea of running for extended periods over long distances for multiple days emerged as the perfect tribute to KB's strength and perseverance during his fight against cancer. Despite being 42 years old and having undergone numerous surgeries on major joints, I am steadfast in my commitment to this challenge.

I will train for approximately seven months, mirroring the timeframe from KB's diagnosis until his passing. I plan to complete this challenge on the first anniversary of his passing and warmly invite others who knew KB to join me in this endeavor.

Together, our goal is to raise $100,000 for Ewing Sarcoma cancer research through ANZSA. During the run, I will embody KB's old-school mentality by camping each night, not staying in hotels or fancy accommodations. I will run to wherever I finish on each day and then camp, staying true to KB's no-frills approach. In essence, I want to do what KB would have done if the roles were reversed.
